The Pitney Farm Market Garden is a three acre certified organic market garden in Pitney, South Somerset run by Adam Beer and Rita Oldenbourg. The market garden is situated at the heart of Glebe Farm. Glebe Farm is a 100 acre organic family farm which produces a range of high quality, high welfare meat and eggs.
Adam has been involved in the organic farming sector for ten years. He was the head grower at Glebe Farm for three years taking the vegetable patch from a large allotment to a commercial enterprise, supplying the Pitney Farm shop, restaurants, cafe’s, a market stall and online sales. After two years working on other farms and developing his skills in traditional countryside crafts (from thatching, to forestry, to hedge-laying) he has now come back to run the Market Garden as a separate enterprise with his partner Rita.
Rita worked for two years at Trill Farm market garden, Devon, which supplies multiple high end restaurants around Lyme Regis, including Hix Oyster and Fish House and River Cottage head quarters. She also worked at a Community Supported Agriculture vegetable box scheme supplying veg boxes to the local community. For the 2019 season, Rita grew the mixed leaf salad for Haye Farm, Devon, as her own business. Haye Farm is the main supplier for The Petersham Nurseries restaurants in Richmond and Covent Garden in London.
Agroecology is at the center of every decision made at Pitney Farm Market Garden. The core aim is to enhance the biodiversity of the farm and improve the health of the soil whilst producing a wide selection of high quality nutritious vegetables for the local community.
They are both active members of the Land Workers Alliance.
