Bakers Farm

Ilminster, Somerset

John Rowswell’s family have lived in Barrington for around 500 years but in the early 20th century they bought Bakers Farm.

As a market gardener, John grows without chemical fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides.  He is not certified organic because he struggles to buy organic seeds for some of his more exotic produce, but he’s happy that all his produce is grown ‘naturally’ … and  his customers agree, supplying New covent Garden market and a wide range of top-end restaurants and bistros.

Michel Roux of Le Gavroche has served Rowswell vegetables and, closer to home, he has supplied top restaurants and gastro pubs including Coombe House and Jack In The Green in Honiton, the Castle Hotel and Blagdon Inn in Taunton, Effings in Exeter,  Digger’s Rest in Woodbury Salterton and Hundred Monkeys in Glastonbury.
